Hero

Everyone in the world wants to be a hero. Hero is a very fantasizing word. It is sometime used as title like great “Greek Heroes” or sometime to praise someone and show affection like saying “My Dad is my Hero”. Whatever may be the case but 1 thing is sure to who so ever it is referred to it gives that person great pride.

There are several heroes know to the world some of them are frictional based on different mythologies, some based on comic books and novels whereas some are referred to real persons. What makes a person Hero? How he is distinguished from the rest of the people who are living nearly the similar life style. After looking at some of the so-called Heroes we can see that below mentioned phase of life is common among them and not to mention that they all possess a great amount of courage, bravery, wisdom, some special ability, etc.

Hero is somebody that had the opportunity and courage to do something that other people were not courageous or inspired to do. By this definition it seems that everyone can become a Hero then what is stopping them to show heroism. Well it is themselves who come in between Heroic act and their normal life. Apart from comic and ancient heroes they’re still ways that many of us could become a hero or show heroic characteristics in real life that anyone can do in spite of limited superpowers.

Quite often, the very first step of being a hero is being a good example by doing the right thing. Like as simple as helping people when they needed, or help people up if they tripped, or even help treat their wounds or call for an ambulance if they hurt themselves. Heroes are role model and aspiration for the society.

Secondly, never try to be a hero mostly for selfish reasons. Don’t be a hero just so you could get publicity or because you wanted to be all that. Do it because you feel like it’s the right thing to do. Remember almost all the superhero in Comics wear mask so that they are unrecognizable and can help others without any personal motto in front.

Third step to be a hero is to determine if you really are up to the task of being a challenge. Because it can be a dangerous task being a hero and can even be life threatening as well. You should not risk your life or put you to more different situation. For example if you cannot swim then it is useless to jump in deep sea to save someone. Instead you can help the person drowning by being on board.

If you see an incident that’s currently happening, don’t immediately get yourself into harm’s way. Sometimes there’s a safer method of doing things that can be just as heroic as well. A good example would be:

  • Calling the police if you saw a store that is currently being robbed and get as much detailed information as you can by watching from a distance so you could report what you had seen.
  • Noticing and assisting someone who was alone but is injured, like severe burns, broken parts of the body such as limbs, arms or legs, or anything that prevented them from getting medical help on their own.

Know your limits and knowing when to act is a must. Sometimes just thinking when the right time to act might not always a good idea. If someone was pointing the gun at you for example, don’t just risk other people’s lives by trying to steal the gun from him or her. It’ll risk them trying to shoot you and others around the vicinity. Also if you’re not really all that physically healthy then the chance of unnecessary harm is greater. Risking or sacrificing your life for someone is honorable, but you have to know WHEN and HOW to act. Because if you attempted to save someone at a wrong time and not knowing how to do so, the consequences most likely would be bad.

Try to learn some useful quick medical tricks so that in case when you encounter any incident of medical emergency and proper medical help is still on way you can act immediately. You’ll most likely just be recognized to show signs of heroic characteristics if you could somehow take control of such things and assisting people and letting them know what they should do until proper help arrives. During the process you might even be able to save the person’s life if he or she was injured. Remember every life is important and saving life should be your first priority.

One of the most important things one should do is to exercise and maintain good health. Many times, if you want many people to look up to you then doing this might encourage them to do the same. Also, maintaining good health helps you become physically fit and will help improve your chance of assisting people more efficiently.

With good health additional benefit can be gained by taking some sort of defensive class or a type of martial arts class. Knowing how to defend yourself and others is a good ability to learn because if and when you really do need to protect yourself and others, you need to act fast and safely. But only use it as a last resort and don’t just use it to try to heroically save others because doing so might lead to casualties.

helping-othersMany times, being a hero or showing selfless heroic acts doesn’t necessarily mean you have to get into harm’s way or risking your life for someone else’s. Many times just by assisting people whenever they needed, or without being asked, or even volunteering at an old folks home or other similar places and being a good role model by putting their needs ahead of your own is a good way to show selflessness. But don’t do it if you just want do it for the thanks. Some good example of doing so would be:

  • Volunteering at an old folk’s home
  • Work at a homeless shelter area during Christmas time or free time
  • Work with the people who have mental and/or physical disabilities.
  • If you can afford it, donate to a group that helps starving children or families from different countries that is much less fortunate and possibly give them a greater chance to have a brighter future.

Remember that being a good citizen and trying to be the hero is not everything. On those rare occasions, you can be a little bit selfish during your personal time, but can easily take it too far so approach with caution. So now you have all the recipe of being a Hero. What are you waiting for now. Go ahead and prove you are also a Hero who needs not to wear cape.

Kindly note some of the content are taken from various blogs and website. There are even more ways people mentioned which can make a person behave or look Heroic. Always remember the Hero is hidden within everyone it is just a matter of one’s effort to bring it out.
